Honesty is one of the core values of Integrity Church.

No one is more honesty than God himself.  The Bible tells us that God is incapable of lying.  Even if every person is dishonest, yet God is proven true.  Consider the contrast with God’s adversary Satan, who is the father of lies.  God simply cannot be anything other than honest, for it is the divine nature.  As God is powerful and merciful, so God also is honest.

God directs us to be honest, because society cannot function without a respect for the truth.  There is no justice system if witnesses do not testify honestly, hence the commandment, “You shall not beat false witness against your neighbor.”  There is no economy if people cannot be trusted to conduct business fairly.  We need honesty, because we can’t live together in community otherwise.

Lastly, God wants us to be honest because of our tendency to speak ill of one another.  The “false witness” we bear is most frequently heard in the gossip and slander that is all too common.  Better to tell the truth and to be charitable in our comments.

In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about our core value of honesty.
