It is difficult to simply stop worrying.  You have to replace it with something else.  You can replace worry with faith.  You can replace the question, “I wonder if I am going to survive?” with the question “I wonder how God is going to save me, this time?”

Jesus talked about the birds of the air and the lilies of the field.  He assured us that if God provides for them, and he does, then God will provide for us as well.  We should have faith.

On more than one occasion Jesus said to his disciples, “Oh, you of little faith.”  That may be a helpful phrase for us.  Perhaps it is not the case that some have faith but others don’t.  Perhaps it is not the case that one minute you don’t have faith but the next minute you do.  Maybe the reality is that we have a little faith, but we can get a little more, and then a little more, and then a little more.  The Christian disciplines we practice, like prayer and reading the Bible and worshiping with others, all help us develop a little more faith.

Jesus had faith, and wanted us to have faith, because he knew that God is faithful.  God isn’t going to leave us by the side of the road.  God isn’t going to let us fall out of the universe.  Replace “I wonder if I will survive?” with “I wonder how God is going to save me?”  Replace worry with faith.
