You are a leader.  Everybody is a leader.  Maybe it happens in the family, or at work, or in the neighborhood.  At some point God will call you to step up and be a leader.  We want to grow in our capacity as leaders.

In the Bible, Moses is an example of a leader.  Moses was one of the great leaders in history.  He didn’t start out that way.  Moses had to grow as a leader.

Moses had to grow past his doubts that he had the gifts to be a leader.  He tried to make excuses to God and asked God to select someone else.  God told him that he wasn’t looking for someone who was eloquent and polished.  God simply was looking for someone who was obedient.

Moses had to grow past his doubts that anyone would follow him.  He was afraid that he lacked authority and credibility.  He was afraid that instead of leading anyone anywhere, he would wind up taking a walk by himself.  What he learned was that people would follow him.  They would complain about him incessantly, but if he could handle the criticism, they would follow.

Moses had to grow past his fear that he would have to do everything by himself.  This was such an important lesson for Moses that he had to relearn it several times.  Every time Moses felt worn down by his responsibilities, God would send someone to help him.

In our sermon this Sunday we will look at the story of Moses and lessons we can learn about growing as leaders.
