It makes all the difference in the world whether you believe that something could happen to you that you can’t see right now.  Maybe you look at some challenge before you and say, “I could never do that.”  Maybe you look at some problem in your family and say, “We’re never going to change.”  Maybe you look at your job which you hate and say, “I’m going to be stuck here forever.”  Faith is believing that things could change in a way you can’t see right now.

Whether you believe that something could happen to you that you can’t see right now depends upon how you believe the universe came into existence.  The Bible teaches that God made the world “ex nihilo”, out of nothing.  God made everything we see from things that are not visible.  If you believe that God made the world out of nothing, then you also believe that God can do more than you can see right now.

Consider placing a third category in your understanding of reality.  In addition to the things that are real and the things that are not real, add the category of things that are real but you just haven’t quite seen them yet.  They are no less real because we don’t perceive them right now.  It is best to place in confidence not in what we judge to be possible or impossible, but what we know of God from his long record of protection and provision for his people.

In our sermon this Sunday we will be talking about how we have faith in the unseen.
