The story of Joseph in the Bible is one of the greatest stories of all time.  It is a long story, with the key line spoken by Joseph himself: “What you did to me, you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.”

Along the way, Joseph learned a few things.

He learned that God is always at work behind the scenes, even when you can’t see his hand.

He learned that while life isn’t fair, we often add to our own problems.

He learned that life is indeed unfair.  Sooner or later, something bad will happen.

He learned that life is like a roller coaster.  It is best not to get too proud when things go well nor to get bitter when things go bad.

Lastly, he learned that there are always two plans at work, our plan and God’s plan.  We have our own plan for our life, and when it doesn’t go according to plan, we can turn bitter.  At the same time, God is working out his plan in history, and our little lives are part of his plan, even the tough parts.

In our sermon this Sunday we will look at how to get better, not bitter.
