We are judged by our teachers when we are in school. We are judged by our employers at our jobs. We are judged by the people we meet every day. Our whole life long, we are judged, and we fear being found not good enough. Not to worry. Jesus Christ sets us free from judgment.
Jesus Christ was the one righteous man, and we are counted as righteous, if we place our trust in him. He did the work, we get the credit. He paid the cost, we get the benefit. We are still sinners, but now we are redeemed sinners who don’t need to worry about justifying ourselves. Jesus won the victory over sin. In his victory, we are freed from judgment.
It comes down to what kind of God we believe we have. Some people think that God is against us. A lot of people used to think that way, and some still do. Some people think that God is indifferent. A lot of people today think that way. However, there have always been people who understand that God is for us. They know that God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world, but that through him the world might be saved. God is like a parent, not an angry parent who is disappointed in us and not an indulgent parent who tells us we did right when really we didn’t. God is like a good parent, who doesn’t give up on us until we finally get it right. God is for us.
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about how Jesus Christ frees us from judgment.
