At some point in your life, you may find yourself living a lie. Maybe there is someone you pretend to like, because it works to your advantage. Maybe you stay in a job that you hate. Maybe you do something you should not do, and you tell yourself that is not really what you are like. It is difficult to be living a lie. Here is good news. Jesus Christ can set you free from living a lie.
A word of caution: sometimes the real lie is when we say we are living a lie. We can use the idea that we have been living a lie as an excuse to do something we should not do. If we claim we will no longer live a lie, and the consequence is breaking a commitment we should not break, or following an ungodly lifestyle, then the point about living a lie is moot. We have simply made a bad choice.
The first step in no longer living a lie is to recognize that God is truth. God is the foundation of reality. If we are to succeed in this world, we will need to accept reality as it is.
The second step in no longer living a lie is to recognize that Jesus is truth. This is the same as the previous step only with a difference. Truth is an abstract concept. Jesus is a person. Jesus comes alongside us and gives us the courage that can set us free from living a lie.
In our sermon this Sunday we will be talking about freedom from living a lie.
