You can’t have the whole life that God intended for you without the church. You need other people. You need community. You need the church.
You need the church because you need a place to belong. Isolation is deadly. People are healthier and live longer when they are part of a community. We are social creatures. We are tribal creatures. We need the church because we need community.
You need the church because you need Jesus. If you try to have a personal relationship with Jesus without the church, you may create your own version of Jesus that is not really Jesus. People attempt to meet their spiritual needs in many ways but nothing takes the place of the church.
You need the church because you need meaning. You have your own personal story, and it is important, but you are here for a little while and soon gone. In order for your life to have eternal meaning, you have to fit your personal story into the story of God’s salvation. Your life has lasting meaning as it is part of God’s plan for redeeming the universe.
In our worship this Sunday we will look at how we need the church, and how we can be the church for others who need the church.
