If there is one area of our lives where we are all vulnerable, it is our children. It doesn’t matter where you live or how much money you have. We can’t control our children and we can’t shield them from all danger. Worry about the kids will keep us up at night.
We worry about our children’s safety. This is a dangerous world. There are illnesses. There are accidents. There are bad people out there. We worry about our children’s behavior. Young people do not always think through the potential consequences of their actions. We worry about their spiritual health. Society will not guide them in the Christian path. Many decide that they have no need for God. There is a lot to worry about when it comes to the kids.
What can parents do, once they accept that they cannot control their children nor can they fix their problems? Two things. First, they can pray for their children. This is the obvious move. Pray for their health. Pray for their development. Pray for their relationship with God. Pray for them every day. Second, they can make sacrifices on behalf of their children This is a less obvious move. It raises one of the great questions of parenting,. What do we do for our children and what do we allow them to do for themselves? There is no simple answer. Consider this. In the death of Jesus Christ, God was making a sacrifice for the benefit of his children.
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about worry about the kids.
