We want love that lasts. We want love that will not fade over time. We want love that will withstand challenges. What can we do to make love last.

First, we have to understand that love is patient. When it comes to our circumstances, sometimes we need to be proactive and sometimes we have to wait. However, when it comes to people, we always have to be patient, if we want love to last. People are not always going to do what we want them to do when we want them to do it. We have to be patient with them.

Second, we have to understand that love keeps no record of wrongs. As soon as we start keeping score, as soon we start calculating that we are putting more into a relationship that we are getting out of it, we are onĀ  our way to destroying that relationship. If we love someone, we don’t take delight in their failing or keep a ledger of their mistakes. We don’t keep a record of wrongs.

Lastly, we have to understand that God is patient with us and God keeps no score of wrongs. The Bible tells us that the Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Bible tells us that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. We are more likely to form a love that will last if we follow the example of God.

In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about the love that lasts.
