People have been praying as long as people have been walking the earth. We all pray. We might pray in a group or by ourselves, we might pray words written for us or pray from the heart, but we all pray. Sometimes, however, prayer feels awkward. Here are three suggestions.
First, focus on God. Think about what God is like. Offer God praise. List the attributes of God. You will find your prayer more satisfying if you focus on God than if you spend a half hour listing your problems.
Second, pour out your heart to God. Some of us tell other people everything happening in our lives, while others are more private, but we all have a need to be open and honest before God.
Third, trust is God. It is not enough to believe that God exists. We need to know that God is able. The God who made stretched out the heavens like a scroll and parted the waters is able to handle your situation.
In our sermon this Sunday we will look at what to do when prayer is awkward.
