We all have something that intimidates us. No matter how brave we are, each person has their weak point, that one situation they would prefer to avoid. How can we overcome that fear? How we can learn to have courage in all circumstances?
First, we decide to be victors, not victims. We decide that life is what we make it, not what happens to us. We still have problems, of course, but we don’t feel so helpless, and we lose the anger and resentment that comes with feeling that our life is out of control. The first decision is to be a victor, not a victim.
Second, we decide to be God sufficient, not self-sufficient. Some people cope with their fears by attempting to become self-sufficient. They try to convince themselves that they can handle anything. They tell themselves that if they suffer a loss, it’s okay, because they don’t care. Followers of Jesus see things differently. We care deeply. We can face a frightening situation not because we don’t care what happens but because we trust God.
In our sermon this Sunday we will be talking about having courage in all circumstances.
