The belief that God made the world shapes your life in three ways:
It gives you a sense of awe. Human beings are meant to worship. If we worship something not worthy of devotion, it is called idolatry, and it causes us problems. If we worship ourselves, it causes us even bigger problems. Creatures are not meant to worship other creatures. Creatures are meant to worship their Creator. We do better when we have a sense of awe.
It gives you a sense of gratitude. Everything we have comes from our Maker’s hand. Failure to return thanks leads to an attitude of entitlement and makes us unpleasant to be around. God has blessed us richly and showered us with abundance. God looked at everything he made and declared it to be good. God has given us a good life. We do better when we have a sense of gratitude.
It gives you a sense of submission. We surrender our will to God’s will. The ultimate prayer is “Thy will be done.” In the process of creating the universe, God brought order out of chaos. There is an order to the cosmos. We have our place in it, above the other animals but below God. We are stewardship of the earth, accountable to God. We do better when we have a sense of submission.
