The resurrection is the core of the Christian faith. Easter, the day when Jesus was raised from the dead, is our big day. What does the Bible teach about life after death? Three things,
First, death will be defeated. The day will come when death will be no more. Death entered the world with the first Adam, and death will exit the world when the second Adam, Jesus Christ, returns. If you are a person who likes to get the last word, you will appreciate this. Death is real, but death does not get the last word. Jesus does.
Second, we will be changed. We will get a different body, a spiritual body. We don’t just disappear. We don’t merge into the collective unconsciousness. We don’t lay down for a nap and get up in heaven unchanged. We will be the same, but different. It will still be us, but with a body fit for eternity. We will be changed.
Third, what we do in this life counts. Because we live forever with God, what we do in this life matters. One reason people fear death is that they think not only will they be erased, but all they have done will be erased. Not so. Everything we do for God has eternal significance. What we do in this life counts.
