Our giving extends beyond our lifetime, and beyond our family. We leave an inheritance for the next generation. That inheritance may be more than money. It may be values or attitudes or even hope.
One gift we can leave is the message that life is more than money. While we think of leaving money, the attitude about the money is more important. We want to leave behind the message that money is a useful servant but a poor master.
A second gift is the message to do good deeds. We set an example by the way we give. We are meant to do more than provide for our family and entertain ourselves. We are meant to give to our community and our world. When we do good deeds, there are two benefits. The first benefit is for the people we help. The other benefit is for the people we inspire.
A third gift is the message to have hope in God. Show by your example that you have hope, even if you lose your job, even if you get sick, even if someone dies. Show them that hope is in God, not in circumstances.
In our message this Sunday we will talk about what we will leave to the next generation.
