How do I know I am good enough? It is one of the universal questions of human existence. We want to be competent at the things that are important to us. We want to be good spouses and good parents. We want to be proud of our work, not ashamed of it. When it comes to the big issues of our lives, we want to feel that we can hold our own. How do we know we are good enough?
In the Bible, the apostle Paul confronted that same question. What he learned was that he needed to change the question. His experience taught him that instead of worrying about whether he was good enough, it was more important to trust in the power of Jesus Christ. We are all going to fall short in some way. We are all going to have something that holds us back, some “thorn in the flesh,” as he said. While we want to do the best we can, what matters in the end is not whether we can demonstrate that we are good enough but whether we trust in Jesus Christ.
In our sermon this Sunday we will be talking about how we can know if we are good enough.
