God moved first. God moved towards us before we moved toward him. God moved toward us before we even knew we needed him. It is one of the defining characteristics of God. Along with his majesty and holiness and compassion, there is God’s prevenient grace. God moved first.
Because God moved first, we know we are valued by God. God seeks us out, not because of our utility, but because every person is precious in his sight. God values everyone, no matter how capable or useful they appear to others. God values everyone.
God moved first, and values us highly, so what then should our response be? Nothing. We don’t need to do anything, aside from accepting the reality that God sought us and found us in Jesus Christ. We might want to justify our existence and contribute to our salvation, but the truth is that there is nothing we can do aside from accepting that God reached out to us in Jesus.
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about the God who moves first.
