Nikos Kazantzakis wrote, “Always take the hard road. It is the road that leads to God.” Jesus, on Palm Sunday, showed us what that looks like.
It looks like running to conflict. When we are faced with a conflict, we may want to keep it in the periphery of our minds, or run from it, or hope it will go away. However, a conflict avoided will usually get worse. Take the hard road and run to conflict.
It looks like speaking truth to power. It is intimidating to stand before someone who has power over you. It could be your boss, or a government official, or a doctor. The temptation is to stay quiet instead of saying the things you planned to say. Take the hard road and speak truth to power.
It looks like defying expectations. There are people who will tell you that you shouldn’t try to be more than you are. There are people who will tell you that you should do more than you are doing. There will be people who have a different plan for your life than the plan God has revealed to you. Take the hard road and defy expectations.
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about how Jesus showed us to take the hard road.
