Grown ups nurture others. They invest time, energy, care, and wisdom in another person for the purpose of helping them grow up in the right way. Think of the parent, the grandparent, the uncle, the aunt, the teacher, or the coach who takes the time to get to know a younger person and walk alongside them. Grown ups nurture others.

Nurture is a subset of grace. The Bible tells us that we are saved by grace. We know grace most clearly, and most centrally, through the cross of Jesus Christ. However, we experience grace in other ways as well. We experience grace when someone invests in us for the sake of our future. We all require some nurturing in order to grow up right. We all need grace. Nurture is a subset of grace.

Ask yourself: who are you encouraging these days? Who are you advising? Who are you mentoring? Who are you nurturing? We all want to be a success in life, and part of success is having a successor. You might be knowledgeable about the Bible, strong in your faith, generous with your wealth, and compassionate toward the weak,  but unless you are investing in others, there is a piece missing. Grown ups nurture others.
