There is a lot of uncertainty in the world today. People wonder if they will be able to keep up financially. We don’t agree as a society on basic morals. The international scene is a powder keg. Then there is all the apprehension about artificial intelligence. It feels as if we are living in a permanent earthquake.
One strategy to deal with the uncertainty is to stay ahead of it. If you can educate yourself about everything, and if you can work harder than anyone, and if you can stay on good terms with everybody, you will be alright. The problem is that there are too many “ifs” in that sentence. Eventually, something is going to go wrong. Staying in control of every possible situation is not a sufficient foundation upon which to build a life.
Jesus offers a different foundation to build your life upon. Build your life upon Jesus himself, and you are building your life upon rock. Trust him for your salvation. Believe that you don’t have to prove that you are good enough, for he did that for you on the cross. We already have all we need. Simply accept it. And live the way he showed us to live.
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about what to do when everything feels shaky.
